Lumenis Eye Care & Wellness is a local and independent optometry practice. Our name stems from luminesce, meaning to glow with an inner light. This inspires us to brighten the lives of our patients, guided by the clear purpose of providing exceptional individualized eye care and encouraging self-care in visual health and wellness.
Our patients are our family, friends and neighbors. We hope to serve yours for a lifetime of healthy vision. Ours is not a quick service clinic with discount quality eyewear.

Meet the Doctor
Dr. Sabah Akbar, O.D.
Dr. Akbar grew up in Downers Grove and is an alumna of Benedictine University. She received her Doctorate of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in 2003. After many years serving patients in private and corporate practice, Dr. Akbar is grateful to bring her unique experience to her own practice. S
he has extensive experience in primary eye care including spectacle prescriptions, contact lens fittings, ocular disease diagnosis, cataract and laser vision surgical co-management and ocular emergency treatment. She has a special interest in dry eye care.
Dr. Akbar is a member of the Illinois and American Optometric Associations.
She and her husband have two daughters. In her free time, she enjoys reading, biking, racket sports, volunteering with her local community, spending time with her family and traveling.

Melissa
Melissa is native of Joliet. She has over twenty years of experience in opticianry and knowledge of frames and contact lenses. Melissa is our lead optician and dedicated to helping people not only see clearly but feel confident and stylish in their glasses and contacts.
Esperanza
Esperanza is native of Joliet. She has over ten years of experience in opticianry and knowledge of frames and contact lenses. She is dedicated to patient care and speaks Spanish fluently.
